Wherefore, whatever the progress in technology and economic life, there can be neither justice nor peace in the world, so long as men fail to realize how great is their dignity; for they have been created by God and are His children.

Pope John XXIII, 1961

What is At Your Word, Lord

At Your Word, Lord (AYWL) is a process of spiritual and pastoral renewal in the diocese of Westminster. It is a three year process of spiritual renewal and evangelization that aims to touch the entire parish. It is a means of implementing recent Papal and Episcopal declarations on evangelization and adult faith formation.

How it all started

At the close of the Great Jubilee Year 2000, the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II wrote the letter 'Novo Millennio Ineunte' which begins as follows:

'At the beginning of the new millennium, and at the close of the Great Jubilee during which we celebrated the two thousandth anniversary of the birth of Jesus and a new stage of the Church's journey begins, our hearts ring out the words of Jesus when one day, after speaking to the crowds from Simon's boat, he invited the apostle to "put out into the deep" for a catch: "Duc in altum" (Lk 5:4). Peter and his first companions trusted Christ's words, and cast the nets. "When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish" (Lk 5:6).'
